Cartmell Street Walkway - Upgrade 2008
The Heidelberg Central Traders, with support from the Banyule City Council funded the beautification and upgrade of our pedestrian walkway from Burgundy Street to the Cartmell Street Car Park. (Between Cape & Hawdon Streets, Heidelberg)
This walkway had its footpath resurfaced in bluestone and exfoliated granite, historic decorative security light poles installed, two garden beds with creeper frames and uplights, and a wonderful mural added to the west wall depicting artworks done by the Heidelberg School of artists - presented by experienced mural artist Tony Sowersby and his collegues.
We thank everyone for their incredible efforts, from the design staff, pavement contractors, electricians, gardeners, project managers and artists and invite all to come and see what a wonderful place this new walkway is.
Increased security lighting at night is to encourage more pedestrian movement through the walkway from the car park in the evenings.
I would like to give special praise to Ms Aldona Stopa from Banyule City Council for her insight, passion and attention to detail that created this smooth and visually appealling unique project.
